NVQ qualified chimney sweep logo

The NVQ in Chimney Sweeping is a knowledge and skills-based qualification which includes the maintenance, inspection and sweeping of flues and appliances. The On-Site Assessment and Training (OSAT) pathway to qualification is NOT an introductory qualification or suitable for new entrants to the trade and is only open to those sweeps and installers with a minimum of 18 months working experience.
Trade knowledge and the application of the required trade skills are assessed through an initial introduction and induction session followed

by a comprehensive profiling interview where any training need will be identified and addressed.
Once the first stages of assessment are successfully completed by the candidate this is followed by an ‘on the job’ assessment in the workplace. The assessor will then map the gathered evidence of competence to the NVQ standards before submitting the candidates NVQ portfolio to CITB, NSAC and the exam board NOCN for the NVQ in Chimney Sweeping to be awarded.

The NVQ qualification in Chimney Sweeping carries two additional endorsements. One for domestic and the other for commercial work. All successful NVQ candidates are eligible to apply for and carry the ‘Blue’ Skilled Workers trades persons CSCS Card and will be entered onto the CITB central register of skilled workers.
